Fiesta Hispana Food Station - Yolanda. *Kim and Manny helping the night of the fiesta


  1. Email PR committee ideas to put in parent informative letter requesting food donation and paper products. The following ideas might already be there from last fiesta. Contact Jenn to ask.
-salsa, chips
-guacamole, chips
-Maria cookies spread with dulce de leche (manjar de leche) *both found in
Meijer in the international aisle
-tropical fruit trays (mangos, papayas, bananas, pineapple….)
-flan
-tropical juices
-“Jarritos”, pop from Mexico (can get 2liter bottles in international section of Meijer)
-whatever they want to cook/bake from Hispanic recipes
-suggest they can get easy recipes from their child’s Spanish teacher
-paper plates, cups, napkins, utensils, toothpicks

2 With your list of volunteers for bringing food and paper products given to you (or emailed to you by the Volunteer chair or Spanish teacher at each elementary), communicate by email / phone about:

-dropping the food off the day of the fiesta, unless it needs to be refrigerated or kept warm. If so, they need to bring it that night about 30 minutes before the fiesta
- where: I'm not sure the best logistics for this. If you contact Joe Austin, custodian Central MS, he can help you with the best plan.

3. A week before or so, contact and communicate with the parent volunteers who will help that night at the food station. Keep track of all communications with volunteers and food donators. The names and contact info for parent / student volunteers will be passed on to you by Ester, volunteer committee.

-explain where, when, how, etc. I suggest shifts so they aren’t working all
night long. Suggest 6:15 (to help set up) to 7:00 and 7:00 - 7:45 (clean up)


4. Night of:
–Ahead of time, talk with Joe about table set up. He is thinking that as you walk in the cafeteria, have some
tables set up lengthwise for buffett style so people can get their food on either side (line
moves faster). Joe and custodians will then have tables set up before we get there.
-bring bulletin board paper to cover the tables (or some other table covering)
-organize food on tables
-clean up,
-give serving items not claimed to the Spanish teacher of the school
identified on the item
-label descriptions of food along with names of specific food. Be specific on ingredients, possible, (i.e. meat for lent)
-Place a few tables outside of the cafeteria to place left over dishes so parents can claim their dishes as they leave the middle school
-only allow the students to visit the cafeteria once and ask to see/check their passports since we want to make sure everyone is able to try the food samples
-The food coordinator can delegate food or supplies if they wish so you do not have duplicates of the same food.

5. Keep list of key people to write thank you’s to afterwards. Suggestion; have a sheet of paper that volunteers sign in on with their addresses
